National Certification Information

 

There are three forms of National Certification exams that can be taken:

  • The National Examination for Therapeutic Massage (NCETM), or
     
  • The National Examination for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCETMB)
     
  • The Massage and Bodywork Licensing Examination (MBLEx)
     
    * Please make sure to check your STATE LICENSING BOARD REQUIREMENTS 
       before choosing between exams.

 

The eligibility criteria for the National Examinations (NCETM / NCETMB) are:

  • A minimum of 500 hours in-class, supervised instruction as follows:
  1. 125 hours of body systems, anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology
  2. 200 hours of massage and bodywork assessment, theory and application
  3. 40 hours of pathology
  4. 10 hours of business and ethics (minimum of 6 hours in ethics)
  5. 125 hours of additional instruction in an area or related field that theoretically completes the massage program of study
  • Graduation from a school that is approved to provide massage therapy and/or bodywork training in the state in which it is located

The eligibility criteria for the Licensing Examinations (MBLEx) are:

  • A completed Application Form and fee payment. There are currently no transcripts or letters required.
